The release of Thalapathy Vijay’s high-octane political drama, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ has hit a massive roadblock involving the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Election Commission (EC). Amidst rising tension in Tamil Nadu, noted director Ameer has lashed out at the lack of transparency surrounding the film’s censorship. With speculations suggesting the film’s political content might violate election guidelines, Ameer pointed out the unusual nature of the delay, comparing it to past controversies like ‘Vishwaroopam.

Ameer questions the lack of transparency in the ‘Jana Nayagan’ censor row

Ameer openly questioned why there is no clear explanation about the issues in ‘Jana Nayagan.’ As per Filmibeat, he said that neither the censor board nor the film’s team has revealed what exactly is objectionable in the film. According to him, this silence creates confusion and raises doubts. He also pointed out that the film is a remake, and it is unclear what new content could have crossed limits. This lack of clarity, he said, is the biggest concern.

Ameer also spoke about the Election Commission’s involvement in this matter. He said that while the commission has full authority and its decisions must be respected, this kind of situation is new for the film industry. He said he doesn’t remember this happening to a film during election time. This has made the issue more unusual and has led to wider discussions.

Ameer compares past film controversies

He further compared the issue with earlier controversies like ‘Vishwaroopam,’ where the reasons for objections were clearly explained. In contrast, he said no one has clarified what the problem is with ‘Jana Nayagan.’ Ameer also hinted that there could be a political angle behind the situation. He stressed that if there is an issue, it should be clearly communicated instead of leaving people to guess, which only increases speculation.
