‘Sanatani protein breakfast’ goes viral: Foreign content creator and Krishna-devotee reveals what’s on his plate

A content creator’s simple morning meal has caught the internet’s attention after he called it his “Sanatani protein breakfast”. The plate looks pretty straightforward at first, but there’s more to the meal than just hitting a daily protein target.Tamal, who goes by mantra_saadhana on Instagram, describes himself as a vegetarian bodybuilder and follower of Sanatana Dharma. He regularly shares posts about fitness, food and his spiritual routine, and his latest breakfast video has got people curious about what exactly he eats to start his day.

So, what’s on the plate?

The breakfast includes tofu, yoghurt, tomatoes, cucumber, an apple and bread.Tamal describes it as a high-protein meal, with tofu taking centre stage. To make it, he cuts tofu into small cubes and cooks it in ghee with jeera, hing and haldi. He adds salt and black pepper, then slightly mashes the tofu as it cooks for a few more minutes. The tofu is served with yoghurt and fresh vegetables, along with an apple and some bread.Nothing too complicated. No fancy ingredients or elaborate recipe. But the interesting part comes after the food is prepared.

Why he calls it a ‘Sanatani protein breakfast’

For Tamal, breakfast isn’t just about nutrition. Before eating, he adds tulsi leaves to the plate and takes the food to his home altar to offer it to the Gods.Once the offering is made, he considers the food prasad. In his video, he explains that the ritual helps “purify your consciousness”.So the breakfast becomes a mix of his fitness routine and his spiritual practice. There’s tofu for protein, a little ghee and tadka for flavour, fresh fruit and vegetables on the side, and a religious ritual before the first bite. And that’s what seems to have made the otherwise simple meal stand out online.

Who is Tamal?

Tamal is originally from Israel and moved to India with his family in 2009.He later spent 12 years studying at a traditional gurukul in Mayapur, West Bengal. During that time, he says he studied Sanskrit, Vedic mantras, puja rituals and havan. He graduated in 2021 and now performs havans and yagnas, chants mantras and creates content around his spiritual life. His social media content often brings together the different parts of his routine, from vegetarian food and bodybuilding to chanting and religious practices. And his latest breakfast is a pretty good example of that combination. For someone looking for a protein-rich vegetarian breakfast, the food itself is simple enough to recreate. But Tamal’s “Sanatani” twist comes from what happens before he eats it: the meal is first offered as part of his daily spiritual practice. In other words, it’s a breakfast that comes with protein, a little tadka and a whole lot of personal belief.
