Karisma Kapoor revisited an incident from the sets of ‘Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge’, recalling how Salman Khan once refused to shoot with her because he disliked her costume. The actors discussed their experiences together during an appearance on ‘Koffee With Karan‘ Season 9, hosted by Karan Johar. Their conversation touched on their frequent arguments and the friendship they developed while working together.Remembering the disagreement, Karisma explained that she was excited about her fashion choices for the film. However, Salman questioned her outfit before the shoot could proceed. “We would fight a lot. Why? During the making of Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge – the iconic outfit. I was very excited with my fashion and this and that, to kill it. He was like, ‘What are you wearing?’ I am like, ‘What?’”
Why Salman Khan refused to shoot the scene
Karisma said Salman was unwilling to film the scene unless she changed her costume. She eventually approached director David Dhawan to intervene after the disagreement continued. Recalling the exchange, she said, “He was like, ‘No, I will not give this shot with you looking like this.’ I had to go and complain to David Dhawan that SK is not letting me wear this outfit. Please tell him.”Karan Johar then asked whether Salman’s objection was related to the outfit being too revealing. Karisma agreed, describing it as “too open and clingy”. Salman comically explained his side, elaborating that the dress had sheer parts.

Salman explained that Karisma’s short skirt would ride up while she performed the dance steps. He said he repeatedly asked her to adjust it before filming each take. “So I used to keep on asking to get it down before every take,” Salman said.The actor also pointed out that the fabric was sheer and transparent. According to his explanation, the energetic choreography made it difficult to keep the skirt in place. He demonstrated how the costume shifted during the movements, explaining why he had continued raising concerns about it.

Karisma recalled that the disagreement eventually reached a point where Salman insisted she replace the outfit altogether. “After a point, Salman was, ‘Go change this. I don’t like this outfit.’ We used to fight a lot,” she said.Despite their disagreements, Karisma also acknowledged Salman’s concern for her. “He used to be very protective about me,” she said.
